This Is Why You Don’t Put Your Christmas Tree In The Fire Place

This should go without saying, BUT do not put your Christmas tree in the fireplace to dispose of it after the holidays.

In McKinney, Texas, someone decided that the ideal way to get rid of the tree now that the holidays are over was to put the old tree in the fireplace. Of course, the entire tree wouldn’t fit, so only the tip of the tree was actually in the fireplace. The rest of the tree was in the living room.

We can’t be sure, but maybe the person thought they could feed the rest of the tree into the fireplace as it burned???

Not surprisingly, the tree went up in a whoosh of flame and smoke- setting the living room on fire as well.

Luckily, the McKinney Fire Department put out the fire before the whole house burned down, but not before the home sustained fire and smoke damage.

Next time, maybe just haul it to the curb for pick up. Or, better yet, stick with an artificial tree.
