Four days ago Sangamon County posted 49 confirmed cases of COVID-19. On Sunday, the county almost broke that record when it posted 42 cases - the second highest single day number for the county.
The total number of cases reported for the weekend was 76 including 41 cases of people who were in their 30s or younger - an age bracket thought to be low risk for contracting the virus.
On Friday, the Illinois Department of Public Health placed Sangamon County, along with 10 other counties, on warning due to the growing number of cases in the. Sangamon has recorded over 70 confirmed cases per 100,000 exceeding the goal of 50 or fewer cases and the positivity rate for testing is at 3.9 percent.
Statewide, a total of 1,467 new cases were reported on Sunday.
