The Sangamon County Department of Public Health reported 206 new confirmed cases of COVID 19 over the weekend. That number includes 92 cases for Saturday – a new one day record, 70 on Sunday, and 44 confirmed cases on Monday
Sadly, 5 new deaths were also reported- including 4 residents of the Mill Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. The death toll for the county now stands at 62.
The surging numbers come as Governor JB Pritzker has imposed mitigation restrictions in 2 of Illinois’ 11 regions. Region 1, which borders Wisconsin – a current COVID hot spot, has been under mitigation since October 3, when its positive rate rose to 11.1%
Region 5, in the far southern part of the state, has just had mitigation restrictions imposed after it had a positivity rate of over 8% for three straight days.
The Governor said Region 7, which includes Kankakee and Will counties, and Region 8, including DuPage and Kane counties, could see mitigations imposed this week.
Mitigation restrictions include a ban on indoor service at bars and restaurants and limits on crowd sizes to 25 people or fewer.
