Mayor Jim Langfelder is promising Springfield’s homeless population will have a warm place to spend the night starting November 1
A contract for the Salvation Army to operate its warming center still needs approval from the City Council. In order to get that final approval, the Mayor said it is likely a special council meeting before the committee as a whole will be held the last Tuesday of the month, which would be October 27.
It will cost $275,000 to run the shelter. To get those funds, the Mayor says the City applied for Federal COVID-19 Relief funds. However, if those funds do not get approved, Langefelder says the City may sue Community Development Block Grant funds instead.
