Even though an employee at the Pleasant Park Child Development has tested positive for COVID-19 the daycare is still in limited operation and Gail O'Neill, director the Sangamon County Department of Public Heath, doesn't think they need to shut down entirely.
According to O'Neill, situations like this are treated in a similar fashion as long-term care facilities. Parents, along with staff, who were in direct contact with the employee, were notified. Currently multiple rooms within the daycare have been closed for 14 days.
A flier explaining that the facility believes the risk of exposure was low was sent home and families were encouraged to self quarantine for 14 days and monitor for potential symptoms - fever, cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, headache, or loss of taste or smell.
O'Neill says she is confident that Pleasant Park is working fully with the the health department.
