It is an encouraging sign but still too early to tell. Only 2 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported by the Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH) on Monday.

Director Gail O’Neill was quick to point out the dip in numbers could simply be a result of the testing center at the former Walgreens on 9th Street being closed on Monday. On a typical day, 5 or 6 confirmed positives come from that drive-thru testing facility.

That testing center will be open again today from 9-5 for people 18 and over. The center is usually available 7 days a week.

As it stands, Sangamon County is reporting a total number of 2,142 confirmed cases, 44 deaths, 9 hospitalizations, and 422 patients in isolation.
