If you are a homeowner struggling to pay your mortgage after having lost income to COVID-19, help could be on the way.
Homeowners in need of assistance can apply for a grant for up to $15,000 from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA). In total, the General Assembly has made $150 million available so homeowners can pay their mortgages, providing aid for 10,000 households.
Applications will be accepted through September 4. Money will be paid directly to the homeowners mortgage server to cover back and future mortgage payments.
As scams often accompany roll outs of programs like the mortgage assistance program, IHDA wants people to be aware
Applying for the Emergency Mortgage Assistance program is completely FREE, there is no charge.
IHDA and their our partners will not contact applicants seeking personal information.
Do NOT give or send personal information to someone over the phone, or text or email, hang up and contact the IHDA call center if you have any questions at 312-883-2720 or toll free at 888-252-1119.
