With the start of the 20/21 school year just a few weeks away and the number of COVID-19 cases rising, school districts throughout the state of Illinois are making the decision to start remotely.
Rochester, Pawnee, Auburn, Springfield Ball-Charter, and New Berlin have all opted to be 100% online when classes start up. Chicago Public Schools have also made the decision to hold their classes 100% online
While the Springfield Education Association (SEA) has recommended a remote start fort Springfield Public Schools, District 186 is currently scheduled to start the hybrid/blended school year on August 31 but a final decision of how the school year will start will be made August 17. Board President Scott .McFarland said in person classes will be contingent on COVID levels and if Sangamon County remains at Phase 4 of the of the Restore Illinois plan. He also noted that a little over 5,000 students have signed up for hybrid classes and therefor feels obligate to have a plan in place regardless of when in person classes resume
