Illinois was approved by the Lost Wage Assistance Program for $300 in unemployment benefits per qualified resident per week. Individuals must qualify for $100 per week unemployment to be eligible for the additional $300. Payments can be retroactive to August 1
Gov Pritzker is not a fan of the program, saying the new stipulations will eliminate approximately 55,000 Illinoisans from the program. Additionally, the governor says it will “likely cut off the most vulnerable workers, create needless competition among the states for these limited FEMA dollars, and sow more confusion among the unemployed,” according to his written statement.
A total of $44 billion is available to all states who apply and are approved for the program. The money will pay through December 27 or until the funding runs out. Governor JB Pritzker’s office, citing unspecified “economic projections for the demands of these funds,” claims the funds will run out in three weeks.
