The biggest street party and race for charity in Springfield is the latest victim of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers of the Fat Ass 5K and Street party have officially canceled the event for this year. According to their website:
“ When it became apparent we could not hold the event in May, we rescheduled the Fat Ass 5K and Street Party for Charity for Friday October 9th & Saturday October 10th. We hoped the 5 month delay would allow enough time for things to begin to normalize. Sadly, the situation hasn’t improved enough for us to safely hold the rollicking Fat Ass 5K & Street Party for Charity with 5,000 of our favorite people.
We will have to cancel this year’s event. Mark your calendars for 2021 because the Fat Ass will be Back!”
The Fat Ass 5K and Street Party For Charity donates to 42 charitable organizations based in central IL or providing service to the area including:
Girls on the Run
St Patrick’s School
Mini O’Beirne Crisis Nursery
Camp Coco
Central Illinois Autism Society
Southeast H.S. Drumline
Illinois Guard Family Support Group
The organization has donated over $1.5 million since its inception in 2008.
The dates for next year’s event are Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8, 2021
