As more bars and restaurants have closed to due COVID-19, Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder told the SJR that he would sign an executive order that will increase the enforcement power of Phase 4 guidelines over bars and restaurants.
Currently, Phase 4 Guidelines for dining and drinking establishments include
Indoor dining restricted to 25% capacity
Up to 50 people allowed per room or floor
Tables must stay 6 feet apart with ten people or fewer per table
Langfelder said his goal is to keep Springfield from sliding back to Phase 3 restrictions which only permits outdoor dining. That is a scenario that would become very problematic for businesses once the weather turns colder in the fall and winter months.
The executive order would result in bars and restaurants not in compliance with receiving a verbal warning. If the establishment does not comply with the order, it will face a $500 fine. A second violation would also be a $500 fine. A third violation could cost the business its liquor license.
Sangamon County spokesman Jeff Wilhite told the SJR public health has received 101 total complaints on bars and restaurants since the beginning of Phase 4. In some cases, it included multiple allegations against the same places.
