Springfield School District 186 s pushing ahead with plans for their hybrid/blended school year, which starts for students on August 31.

However, there will be plenty of precautions put in place to help slow the spread of coronavirus and to keep kids and staff safe as Superindent Jennifer Gill and director of student support Jason Wind told the SJR

The Return To Learn Plan includes:

  • Masks, which are now part of the official dress code, are required of all students, teachers, and staff members in, as well as visitors to all District 186 buildings.

  • Students will be given two reusable solid color masks. If students choose to provide their own, they may, but no garish faces or inflammatory writing is allowed on the masks.

  • No bandannas may be worn.

  • Schools have supplies of surgical masks for emergency use or if students forget their own.

  • All people entering the building will have their temperature taken. Students will have theirs taken before getting on the bus.

  • Children will have their temperatures taken before getting on the bus

  • Buses will be limited to 50 students, and masks must be worn at all times.

  • Social distancing will be practiced on buses, and while the weather permits, windows will be cracked.

  • Breakfast and lunch will be “grab and go” with seating in the lunchroom and gymnasiums. The salad bar will be gone.

  • Some afterschool activities will be held via zoom meetings.

Some details are still being worked out, such as passing periods between classes. Students with special needs will be handled on an individual basis.
