Dining With Deb: The Barn (Review)

Photo Credit: The Barn Official Facebook Page

When I saw the sign at 1501 Wabash Ave in Springfield that a new restaurant called The Barn was coming, I was excited. When I saw they specialized in lunch and breakfast, I got REALLY excited. When I saw they specialized in locally sourced food, I got REALLY, REALLY excited... and hungry.

Then COVID-19 happened, and I had to wait...and wait... and wait. But today, it finally happened, I got to have breakfast at The Barn, and all I can say is it was sooooooooo worth the wait.

I had the pot roast frittata with meat and root vegetables, potatoes, and biscuits. And first happened. There was so much food; I couldn't finish it all. I know, right!! That, like, never happens, and I wanted to finish it because it was so good, but sadly, my typically spacious belly was too full.

The food was all extremely well prepared and served hot. The biscuit (which was the most enormous biscuit I had ever seen) was a little more peppery than I am used to, but it wasn't over seasoned- just had a slight kick I wasn't used to. However, that made it pair exceptionally well with the fresh blueberry jam. The potatoes were prepared to perfection. The frittata was served very hot in its own cast-iron skillet. The meat was tender, and the vegetables were well cooked but still firm. I would have liked to have had a few more veggies in there, to be honest, but there was still a lot of flavor in it.

The service was prompt and friendly, and it was the perfect morning for an ideal breakfast on their patio area.

It was a fabulous meal, and I can't wait to try them for lunch.
