COVID-19 Testing Facility To Close

As the positivity rate for COVID-19 is on the rise, the last thing you would expect to hear is that a testing facility is closing. Yet, that is precisely what is happening.

The free testing site at the Sangamon County Health Department Building, located at 2833 S Grand Ave E, Springfield, is shutting down and moving to Montogomery County as of Monday, July 20.

This site, operated by the Illinois Department of Health, has seen hundreds of people seeking tests since its opening. In the past three weeks, the positivity rate for COVID -19 has risen from .8% to 2.7%, and people waiting on results have had to wait anywhere from 4 to 7 days.

Testing is still available in Springfield, by appointment only at the former Walgreens on North 9th St. for anyone over the age of 18 who meet the CDC criteria.

If you are symptomatic and have approval through Telehealth, testing is available at Memorial’s clinic on South 6th St.
