The goal for District 186 was to move to the hybrid model and have kids back in school by October 26. For that to happen, the county must meet four separate metrics:

  • Sangamon County's positivity rate must be less than or equal to 5%.

  • Sangamon County's case count must be less than or equal to 50 out of 100,000.

  • Sangamon County's new youth case count must be less than or equal to 5%.

  • Sangamon County's weekly case count can't increase more than 20%

However, the number of new cases hit its highest level since early September at 92 cases per 100,000 this week.

According to the Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH), as of 2 pm Friday, October 2, the total number of cases of COVID-19 in the country stands at 2,576 with 55 new cases confirmed, 12 hospitalizations, and 498 in isolation. The death toll remains at 47.
