Congratulations you broke the record... no wait you didn't

When Steve Cram saw that American sprinter Noah Lyles had run the 200 meter race at the 2020 Inspiration Games in 18.90 seconds, he didn't think that could possibly be right.... and it wasn't.

It turns out that before the race had even started, things had gone wrong. Officials told Lyles to line up in the wrong lane. Ultimately, this meant that the American runner had only run 185 meters in 18.90 seconds not the full 200. So clearly the mistake was not Lyles' fault - an idea supported by French coach and analyst PJ Vazel, but it was enough to take him out of the results.

So long story short, Usain Bolt's world record set at the 2009 World Championships of 19.19 is still safe. Apparently they do expect you to run the entire 200 meters to break the record
