It is never a good idea to leave your car attended- even for the briefest of moments because someone could easily steal it.
In Beaverton, Oregon, a car thief saw a woman who had left her running car while she quickly ran into a local grocery to pick up a gallon of milk. So, he decided, “What the heck, I’m going to steal her care,”
He hopped into the driver’s seat and took off.
Then he saw her four-year-old son in the backseat.
So, he pulled a U-turn and went back to lecture the mom on being so irresponsible as to leave her child alone in a running car (because apparently stealing cars is so much more responsible). He then proceeds to order her to take her son out of the car and takes off again. The cops are still looking for the guy.
As for the mom, the police said she didn’t break any laws since she could see her son the entire time and was never more than 15 feet away from her Honda. However, they recommend she not leave the car running in the future.
