Parents with children in the Ball Chatham School district received some unwanted news on Wednesday. A student there tested positive for the COVID-19 virus after participating in an activity at GHS.

An email that went out to the parents read in part:

“Earlier today, we were notified that a student who has last participated in an activity at Glenwood High School on July 8, has tested positive for COVID-19. Upon receiving that information, we immediately contacted the Sangamon County Dept. of Public Health (SCDPH) for their guidance. In addition, deep cleaning/ disinfecting protocols- as recommended by the CDC – were followed in the areas used by the student.

Due to health privacy laws, the identity of the student will not be released.

Given the circumstance surrounding the student and the activity, the SCDPH as advised that the vast majority of students and staff both in the school and on the school grounds are considered at “low risk” for being potentially exposed to the virus.

Other students or staff members who were in close contact with the student are receiving additional communication by the Sangamon County Dept. of Public Health.”
