On Wednesday, Sangamon County announced its third-highest one day total with 56 confirmed new COVID-19 infections and two more deaths.
Statewide, 2,862 new cases of coronavirus were announced on Wednesday.
As the numbers rise and concern increases as we move into fall and winter when more people will be inside, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) advises people to use “special considerations” for holiday gatherings.
According to the IDPH website, those planning holiday gatherings should:
Limit the number of guests and try to have as many activities outside as weather permits.
For indoor gatherings, try to increase airflow by partially opening a couple windows.
Everyone should plan on wearing masks indoors when not eating and drinking.
Limit your activities in the two weeks before your gathering and ask your guests to do the same to decrease the risk of exposure to the virus.
Try to do gift shopping online by looking at local store websites and choosing pickup options or delivery if available.
Utilize online, delivery, and curbside pickup for grocery shopping. If shopping in person, try to go at times when the stores have the smallest crowds.
Think about the seating arrangements if you are planning a meal. Keep members of the same household together and try to put space between one family and another.
Skip the buffet-style or potluck meals this year and have one person serve all the meals. Also, consider limiting people in the area where food is being prepared.
If you are sick, do not travel and do not attend gatherings and celebrations.
