As COVID Levels Continue To Rise, Sangamon County Prepares to Enter Full Mitigation On Friday

They were supposed to go two weeks before revisiting the “phased-in” mitigation efforts. That was one week ago. Now with a record-setting 343 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, more than 500 new cases reported over the weekend, and a current seven-day rolling positivity rate of 14.3%, Sangamon County will enter full tier one mitigation restrictions on Friday.

In addition to the new restrictions, Mayor Jim Langfelder plans on a new ordinance that would extend the mask mandate for all retail places to all public places, which allows the city to impose fines on anyone not wearing a mask
