APL Caring For Animals In Two Separate Hoarding Incidents

Animal Protective League has stepped up twice in as many weeks to help animals in dire circumstances.

Last week, APL was one of several shelters that took in animals from a breeder who was shut down near Quincy, IL. Then, APL received the call about a situation in southern Illinois. According to the organization’s Facebook post:

“This time we got the call for a situation in southern Illinois that had upwards of 60 chihuahua and chihuahua mix dogs. These dogs were getting minimal human interaction and care and they needed our help ASAP! Once again we sprang into action! This time taking 30 of the precious pups needing our help! These guys will take some time to get acclimated and all need some veterinary care before they are ready for forever homes

Between the two incidents, 45 dogs and about a dozen cats went to the limited-admission, no-kill shelter on Taintor Rd. The animals will be groomed and placed into foster homes while receiving medical care before being available for adoption.

In addition to the animal shelter, APL also provides a low-cost spay/neuter clinic, a monthly low-cost vaccine clinic, and a pet food bank for individuals struggling to afford pet food. The shelter is open by appointment for individuals wishing to adopt dogs or cats.

Animal Protective League is a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization. They receive no state, city, or county funding and rely on fundraisers and donations to keep their services available. If you would like to help, you may make your donation HERE.
